New Terminator Salvation Trailer

March 3, 2009
John Connor (Christian Bale) confronts Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) in this summer's Terminator Salvation

The full theatrical trailer for Terminator Salvation has hit the web in full HD glory.  There was a point when I thought McG and I were done professionally, but this trailer almost makes me forget that he directed the abominations that were the Charlie’s Angels movies.  Almost.

Christian Bale looks to be playing John Connor in top form; screaming at people and muttering under his breath.  We also learn more about the mysterious Sam Worthington character of Marcus Wright… slightly spoilerific… so be warned before watching the trailer.

The movie may end up sucking, but this trailer is nearly flawless.  Great set pieces, good exposition and quality Nine Inch Nails music from before Trent Reznor‘s creative peak.  Zing! If this movie is anywhere near as good as its trailer, then we’re in for a treat—How many times have you said that to yourself, only to be disappointed?  Only time will tell, but Terminator Salvation is starting to look promising.  Goooood for you McG!

You can see the trailer in theatres Friday attached to Watchmen, as well as the new Star Trek trailer.

I’ve never been a fan of McG. However, when I heard that he was in the running for the new Terminator reboot, I became super pumped. During the first ramblings of its creation, I just wanted the new Terminator movie to be better than T3. News dropped of the planned trilogy being set entirely in the future and based solely on John Conner fighting Skynet post Judgement Day got me amped.

I wanted to see mindless action and have the ultimate popcorn munching experience with this. McG has totally met expectations with the trailer. Everything in it seems perfect: cast/music/cinematography/camera/action shots. As well, it reveals that the movie’s plot isn’t as linear as many would have expected. In fact, I think too much was revealed but according to press junkets and randoms having private conversations with McG, there is soo much more to discover and leave for speculations. That’s just plain tight in my opinion.

It would have been awesome to have James Cameron resume his duties. In fact, I think it would have been perfect. But McG is slowly making me a fan of his work and his faithfulness to the material. He just needs to stop reassuring fans that he has our best interests in mind. The trailer and all the art/movie stills being released are comforting enough to satisfy even the most skeptical critics.
