Prince of Persia Trailer

November 2, 2009

The first trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has arrived; the upcoming Disney film is adapted from the 2003 Ubisoft video game of the same name.  Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as the least convincing Persian in the history of film, a performance made even more glaringly offensive by his affected English accent.  The film also features Alfred Molina, Gemma Arterton and Sir Ben Kingsley.

The film directed by Mike Newell (Donnie Brasco, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and the same team that brought us the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.  Prince of Persia was originally due for release this past Summer, but was pushed back until May 28th, 2010 to allow extra post-production time.

Thanks to Raj for the heads up.

I believe they are not using the literal prince from Persia, but a fallen prince who is in Persia. Plus the entire cast is British so…. why not fake an accent, would you have preferred the brokeback mountains accent from poor jake?

The Mummy starring Jake Gilgamesh! Gotta admit, it looks to have a similar vibe. Some of the jumping around is nice, witty repartee, not as much. And yes, de-ethnic’ing works for mass consumption irritates me greatly.
