I was really disappointed with not being able to play the princess or another female character in the new version of Super Mario Brothers for the Wii. Being a girl it’s like we are not as important to be placed as an action player in the game. It is a huge step back for Princess Peach being (yet again) the damsel in distress.

This game is perfect for me. My video game reflexes are finely tuned for side scrollers and the old style games. I can still play and enjoy deep, advanced games like Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto or Fable, but having grown up on a diet of Zelda 3, Illusion of Gaia, Super Metroid and Super Mario World 1 and 2, this game is exactly what I need and want - enough nostalgia to make me smile, but enough modernity to not make me say "why did I pay $50 for this?".

One thing I've learned, and that Joel mentioned, is that Mario games have serious staying power. I consider this a wise purchase.

I suppose my review is somewhat lopsided. I didn't follow typical review form, perhaps in detriment.

I would say my biggest complaint is the excessive death having four players can bring. There were lots of situations where people were dying left and right because they respawned poorly or immediately were bumped. Since Mario is extensively a large obstacle course, it sucks when you're bumped about instead of navigating on your own skills.

Yes, there is something bad...and I completely forget to mention it with my own review...that's that there is no online multiplayer.

Surely there is something bad to say about this game?

It should be noted that this game is a sequel to New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS which was also a great game.
