Produced by the CFC, Cleo is an example of the capabilities and the possibilities of Canadian film. The film follows a girl, Cleo, trying to buy a phone off Craigslist. The guy she buys off of turns out to be a little more interesting than she bargained for. Directed and shot in Toronto by the very talented Sanja Zivkovic, a Serbian-Canadian writer/director, Cleo is an interesting slice-of-life drama. Nina Kiri is excellent as Cleo, bringing a sense of self-assuredness to the screen. Andrew Pimento, who plays a wannabe bad boy but sweet at the core to a tee, equally matches Kiri, and both seem to have a natural talent for the screen. Cleo is an excellent short from a promising director and definitely worth viewing.
