TIFF 2016: Gods Acre Review

Short Cuts

Facing a rapidly encroaching flood, an aboriginal elder (played by Corner Gas‘s Lorne Cardinal) has to decide whether to abandon his remote Alberta home in Kelton Stepanowich’s solemn, beautifully shot Gods Acre. The environmental hazard, created via global warming, takes on a deeper significance as the man steadfastly tries to adapt to the threat that has landed – literally – at his doorstep. The ending is inevitable, but hopeful, and celebrates the power of staunch determination in the the face of impossible odds.
