On the latest minisode of The Shelf, we have a discussion with Jon Nguyen, the director of David Lynch: The Art Life, a fascinating new documentary about the cult filmmaker’s early life and lesser known work as an artist.
Nguyen and his crew spent years filming and interviewing Lynch for the doc. It’s an intimate portrait of an enigmatic film figure – and a must-see for any fan of the director. We recently spoke with Nguyen about how he first came to know Lynch’s work, why the reclusive director agreed to be involved in the doc, the challenges involved with interviewing him, and of course, what’s on his Dork Shelf.
