Heartless Trailer

The trailer for Philip Ridley’s Faustian thriller Heartless has hit the web. The film stars Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe, 21) as Jamie, a young man with a heart-shaped birthmark on his face. The East London neighbourhood Jamie calls home has been plagued by violence. Most people believe that the seemingly random violence is gang related, but Jamie soon discovers that there is a much more sinister cause behind attacks.

Heartless also stars the gorgeous Clémence Poésy and the awesome Eddie Marsan.
No North American release date has been set, but keep your eye on the official site for any news regarding a local screening.

Fallout: New Vegas Trailer

Bethesda Softworks has announced that their new Fallout game is set for release this Fall. Announced last year, Fallout: New Vegas is not Fallout 4, but is more of a spin-off and direct sequel to 1998’s Fallout 2. Bethesda also released a teaser trailer for the game to coincide with their announcement.

New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, best known for developing the NeverWinter Nights series and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Obsidian was formed shortly after Interplay’s Black Isle Studios (the developers of Fallout and Fallout 2) shut down. Many of the key players from Black Isle ended up at Obsidian, so hopefully Fallout: New Vegas can recapture some of the heavily-irradiated magic that made the first two games in the franchise so great.

The Losers Trailer

The first trailer for the big screen adaptation of Andy Diggle’s comic book The Losers has hit the web.  The film, like the comic book, centres on a CIA anti-terrorism team who are betrayed by their handler and left for dead. The group of agents decide to take out everyone responsible for selling them out, prime among them, their handler Max.

The film looks like it could be some fun, it has a great cast featuring Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana, Jason Patric and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I also really like the fact that they are staying faithful to the source material, which doesn’t often happen when studios adapt lesser known properties like The Losers.

The Losers is due in theatres April 9th 2010.

Kick-Ass Trailer

The full theatrical trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass has punched and kicked its way online. Kick-Ass, based on the ongoing comic book series by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., centres on an outcast teenager who decides to become a costumed vigilante. He quickly discovers he isn’t the only mask avenger in town.

I like this trailer a lot more than that obnoxious Red Band trailer for the character Hit-Girl that was released a few weeks back. To be fair though it did illustrate that the film would be as violent and brutal as the comic book. The movie was shot in Toronto, so it’s nice to see that some fleeting glimpses of Hogtown have made it into the trailer.

Kick-Ass stars Nicholas Cage, Mark Strong, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Aaron Johnson and is due in theatres April 16th, 2010.

Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2

Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2

Apple has posted the first trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Iron Man 2.  We finally (legitimately) get a glimpse of completed shots with Mickey Rouke’s Whiplash and Don Cheadle’s War Machine in action. The last scene of the trailer shows some heavy action with both Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Rhodey against a group of androids.

Hats off to the production, it’s insane to see two heavy hitting comic book heros go nuts on screen at the same time.  I keep watching War Machine’s huge shoulder cannon go back and fourth drilling enemies.  Check out the Iron Man 2 trailer embedded after the jump.

The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood has hit the web.  The film stars Russell Crowe as Robin Hood and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian.

Scott’s film looks like a more realistic and rather brutal adaptation of the Robin Hood legend.  Kevin Costner must be spinning in his grave.

Robin Hood is due in theatres May 13th, 2010.

Sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum in Development

Rocksteady Studios officially announced a sequel to the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum last night with a teaser trailer.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment debuted the trailer at Spike’s Video Game Awards last night and promise fans that it will be a worthy sequel to the first game.  From the looks of the trailer, the action has moved outside of Arkham Asylum and straight on to the streets of Gotham.  The game features the return of the Joker along with promise of new villains from the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery.  A website for the game Arkhamhasmoved.com may provide some clues as to who will be appearing in the game;  upon entering the site you are greeted with a familiar poster of Uncle Sam “Two-Face” style.

No release date has been announced yet.

Trailer for Transformers: The War for Cybertron

Activision has released the first trailer for their upcoming video game Transformers: The War for Cybertron.

YouTube Preview Image

The game features an original storyline and has nothing to do with the movies or Michael Bay.  High Moon Studios (Darkwatch, The Bourne Conspiracy), the developers behind the game, have said they are taking a Gears of War style approach to the look and feel of the game.  To be fair the trailer is just a teaser, and features no actual gameplay.  However, it appears that the appearances of some famous characters like Optimus Prime look nothing like their cartoon or film counterparts.

I’d love to see what a Transformers game would be like with Gears of War style action and gameplay.  I have yet to play a fun or even playable Transformers game, but hopefully The War for Cybertron will end the streak of bad games; much like the recent Arkham Asylum did for Batman games.  Now we just need to see some actual gameplay footage.

Transformers: The War for Cybertron is due out in 2010 for the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Kick-Ass Trailer

The teaser trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass is now online. Kick-Ass, based on the ongoing comic book series by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., centres on an outcast teenager who decides to become a costumed vigilante. Much of the footage from the teaser was previously seen in the leaked Comic-Con presentation, though this is the first time we’re seeing it in such high quality.

Shot in Toronto last year, the film is getting very positive buzz.  The Kick-Ass comics are extremely violent, by all accounts Vaughn’s film is just as brutal. Kick-Ass punches, kicks and bludgeons its way into theatres on April 16th, 2010.

Clash of the Titans Trailer

Posted: November 10th, 2009 | Author: Will | Filed under: Trailer | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

The first teaser trailer for Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans has hit the web, the film is a remake of Desmond Davis’ 1981 original of the same name.  Leterrier who previously directed Unleashed, Transporter 2, and The Incredible Hulk, sought the involvement of legendary effects artist Ray Harryhausen for his remake.  Harryhausen’s amazing stop-motion creature effects were the highlight of the original film.  The remake of Titans stars Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar) as the legendary Greek hero Perseus and Liam Neeson as the god Zeus.

This film could really go either way, the original screenplay for Clash of the Titans was written by the legendary writer-director Lawrence Kasdan, but the script has since been reworked by the writers of Æon Flux and The Tuxedo.  However, Leterrier has an extremely good eye for action and that’s what you’re looking for in a sword and sandals epic like this.  Let the comparisons to 300 begin.  Clash of the Titans is set for release on March 26th, 2010.

Prince of Persia Trailer

Posted: November 2nd, 2009 | Author: Will | Filed under: Trailer | Tags: , , , , , | 2 Comments »

The first trailer for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has arrived; the upcoming Disney film is adapted from the 2003 Ubisoft video game of the same name.  Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as the least convincing Persian in the history of film, a performance made even more glaringly offensive by his affected English accent.  The film also features Alfred Molina, Gemma Arterton and Sir Ben Kingsley.

The film directed by Mike Newell (Donnie Brasco, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and the same team that brought us the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.  Prince of Persia was originally due for release this past Summer, but was pushed back until May 28th, 2010 to allow extra post-production time.

Thanks to Raj for the heads up.
