The first trailer featuring in-game footage of the anticipated Elder Scrolls sequel, Skyrim, has arrived. Elder Scrolls V is Bethesda’s long awaited follow-up to the excellent Oblivion, a game that was praised at the time for its state of the art visuals. Skyrim seems to be following in its predecessors footsteps, the fantasy role-playing game’s visuals look second to none. Watch the trailer below.

Bethesda has had a wonderful track record with the Elder Scrolls games, which despite their many flaws, are some of the best role-playing games out there. If the time we spent playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and their expansions is any indication, we can easily imagine sinking days, if not weeks, of gameplay time into Skyrim.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim arrives for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 11, 2011.

Publisher Bethesda Softworks has released a gameplay trailer for Fallout: New Vegas, a spin-off to their popular post-apocalyptic role-playing series. New Vegas is not Fallout 4, but more of a direct sequel to 1998’s Fallout 2 in terms of theme, setting and the people developing it.

Sadly, Bethesda’s Gamebryo engine is beginning to show its age; by modern standards New Vegas is not a good looking game. But graphics are never what made the series worth playing, Fallout games have always been about providing the player with a unique and deeply engaging experience. As luck would have it, the folks creating New Vegas know all about that.

Fallout: New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, best known for developing the NeverWinter Nights series and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Obsidian was formed shortly after Interplay’s Black Isle Studios (the developers of the first two Fallout games) shut down. Many of the key players from Black Isle ended up at Obsidian, so hopefully Fallout: New Vegas can recapture some of the heavily-irradiated magic that made the first two games in the franchise so great.

Fallout: New Vegas will hit the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 this October.

Kotaku just broke the news that legendary First Person Shooter developer id Software will be purchased by ZeniMax, parent company of RPG developer Bethesda Softworks. The merger of id Software; the company that created the likes of Doom and Wolfenstein, and Bethesda Softworks; the studio behind Fallout 3 and the Elder Scrolls games, is huge news and an amazing opportunity for both companies.

Read id Software Bought By Bethesda Parent Company, ZeniMax @ Kotaku.com

When developers of this calibre get together, gamers everywhere win. Not only does this mean that we’ll see more games from id software more often, but it also means that Bethesda will now have access to id’s cutting-edge Tech 5 game engine and whatever future brilliance id co-founder John Carmack pulls out of his ass. Plus, a little more first person shooter experience for Bethesda wouldn’t hurt, since Fallout 3‘s shooting mechanics were utilitarian at best.

Broken Steel, the third downloadable content pack for Bethesda Softworks immensely popular Fallout 3 will be released on May 5th. The nature of Fallout 3‘s original ending, meant that players were not able to keep playing after the completion of the main quest, a fact that irked many. Bethesda recognized this shortcoming and as a result Broken Steel will continue the main storyline after ending of the game as the player and the Brotherhood of Steel seek to finish off the remnants of the Enclave once and for all. The Broken Steel DLC raises the level cap to 30 and will also feature new quests, characters, enemies, weapons and locations.

Beware: trailer may contain spoilers if you have not completed Fallout 3.

If the previous downloadable content for Fallout 3; The Pitt and Operation Anchorage, is any indication Broken Steel will be a lot of fun and add hours of gameplay.

Bethesda Softworks has just announced that a new Fallout game is on the way for 2010. Fallout: New Vegas will be developed by Obsidian Entertainment, best known for the NeverWinter Nights series and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. According to Bethesda’s Todd Howard Fallout: New Vegas will not be a sequel to Fallout 3, but will instead merely be set in the Fallout universe.

It sounds to me like this could more likely be some kind of sequel to the story of Fallout and Fallout 2. This is amazing news for fans of the original Fallout games, Obsidian Entertainment formed after the dissolution of Interplay’s Black Isle Studios, the developers of Fallout and Fallout 2. Many of the same designers who worked on those games—Feargus Urquhart, Chris Jones and Chris Avellone to name a few—ultimately went on to form Obsidian. I am really excited to see these guys back in the radiated, mutant-filled Fallout sandbox.
