Id Shows Off Rage at QuakeCon

August 14, 2009

Is there a Freud joke to be made out of that title?

North America’s largest LAN party, QuakeCon, is in full swing this week in Texas.  QuakeCon features multiplayer gaming tournaments, but it is also a chance for the host, id Software to show off their latest products.

Rage is the new game being shown by id at QuakeCon.  Set in the aftermath of an asteroid impact, the game is part Fallout and part Twisted Metal: the game combines first person shooter action with vehicular combat. Like any new id game, Rage pushes the envelope in terms of graphics technology, as this new trailer quickly illustrates.

Rage does look rather Fallout-esque; one wonders if that anything to do with Zenimax, parent company of Fallout 3 developer Bethesda, buying out id Software a few months ago. Is owning the Rage technology cheaper than licensing it?

Rage is due out for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 some time in 2010.
