Saturday Oct 29 - TO Jam Arcade, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

The Toronto Independent Game Development Jam (TOJam) is a free, annual game-making event open to the public. For the last 5 years, they’ve gathered together the craziest game makers in the world for a 3-day, around-the-clock game making binge. TOJam attracts a mix of hobbyists, students, and professionals. For some, it’s an opportunity to try new ideas, for others it’s a chance to focus. TOJam #6 was held May 13 – 15, 2011.

TOJam Arcade will feature a curated exhibition of a minimum of 10 games from TOJam in a cool and entertainment focused space where people can easily flow from one screen to the next.

In addition to the Arcade, a launch event that features all TOJam #6 games will take place on October 28 in the OCAD University Great Hall.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP Review

March 27, 2011

Once upon a time, a triumvirate of local talent assembled in an attempt to create something. That something is Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, as much an interactive art installation, music album and bit-nostalgia trip as it is an Apple iDevice game. No one was entirely sure what to expect from Sword & Sworcery, but the fact now remains that the “brave experiment” undertaken by Superbrothers, Capybara Games and Jim Guthrie is nothing short of a stunning success. Continue reading

Tales from Space: About a Blob Review

February 9, 2011

What’s not to like about blobs? Video games and globular protagonists have gone together like… well, two blobs do. Toronto-based indie developers DrinkBox Studios have been hard at work on Tales from Space: About a Blob for several years now, putting their own spin on blob-based gaming. We have been intrigued by the game ever since its appearance at Gamercamp in 2009, but had not heard much about it until last September, when it was announced that the title had become part of Sony’s Pub Fund program. Now About a Blob is finally available for download on the Playstation Network, but does this platformer-puzzler live up to the gooey pedigree of its blobby forefathers? Continue reading
