The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Trailer

The film has all the visual flair and filmic insanity we’ve come to expect from Gilliam.  Gilliam is legendary for his bad luck when it comes to making movies, if you’ve seen the documentary Lost in La Mancha, about his abortive attempt to bring Cervantes’ Don Quixote to the screen, then you know what I’m talking about. Parnassus did nothing to change Gilliam’s streak of ill luck, Ledger died in the middle of production.  After a short break, production resumed with other actors portraying physically transformed versions of Ledger’s character.  Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell all appear as various versions of the character.  With the Ledger mythos growing in the wake of The Dark Knight and his death, Gilliam’s latest film is sure to attract a lot of attention.

We discussed the cut of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus that screened at Cannes in a recent podcast, take a listen to hear our impressions of the film.
